Ice Sculpture
With the custom look of statuesque crystal, ice sculptures have become the decorative focal point at the finest events.
Completely custom creations are sculpted in ice and displayed as a beautiful center piece, providing a rich embellishment for the most cherished gatherings.
Over the last few decades, the importance of the quality in the décor is recognized by an increasingly detail conscience public. Ice sculptures originate from solid blocks of ice weighing 300 pounds and measured 40 inches tall by 20 inches wide and are custom sculptured to suit any request.
The tools of the carver consist of a variety of old fashioned wood carving tools as well as modern day power tools such as an electric chainsaw, dremel tools and powered wood sanding tools.
Unlike an artist who sculpts clay, stone or any other lasting material, the Ice Carver has unusual conditions to work with. The first challenge is ice melts, so the carver must work in a freezing environment. Ice sculptures can take as long as two to three hours to create depending on the detail complexity of the design. The challenge is the ice sculptures are set-up and displayed in non-freezing environments such as a banquet hall. In order to maintain the sculptures figure as long as possible, the ice carver needs to accentuate the detail of the design so its image is maintained as long as possible. When doing particular designs such as company logos, an alternative method is used to engrave into the face of the ice. This is done with a drill type tool called a dremel. After the design is drilled out, the void outlining the design is packed with snow. The white snow provides a contrast against the clear ice providing a very legible and longer lasting design as only the outside surfaces of the ice melt away.
In any case, the ice sculpture always qualifies for center stage on any food or product display.
